Isn't aikido pretty difficult? Aikido makes use of natural movements and anyone can learn it. Prior experience in learning movements (such as with other martial arts or dance, for example) is of course helpful, but by no means necessary. Does it really work? The principles underlying aikido are as effective as they are simple. It takes some time to internalize these concepts to a point where one can draw on them reliably, but once this process begins, students come to recognize just how effective and efficient aikido can be. The results of a properly executed aikido technique are astounding and often difficult to comprehend with the eyes alone. Those who have had the opportunity to feel these results seldom doubt the effectiveness of the art. Try it, we're sure you'll agree! Is aikido for me? Aikido is not based on sheer physical strength and is equally suited for all age groups and both genders. Aikido helps to reduce tensions and foster a flexibility and suppleness extremely useful in everyday life. Anyone prepared to practice regularly and to work in earnest on improving themselves will most probably feel quite comfortable training in aikido. What do I need to start? For your first classes, comfortable clothing such as sweats or tights and a T-shirt will do. For the way to the mat, you might want to bring along a pair of slippers or sandals. No shoes are worn on the mat.
